Cook penne in boiling salted water until al dente. Reserve some pasta water.

Heat olive oil, add sliced garlic and broken red chillies. Sauté until garlic is golden.

Add canned tomatoes, crush them, and simmer for 15 minutes until sauce thickens.

Toss drained penne in the sauce with pasta water as needed. Garnish with basil and serve.
